Names of animals at Eleven Mile Ranch come from several sources. Breeding lines are reasons for the naming of an animal to help keep records for the program developed. Registration, tag numbers, and tattoo numbers are another way of naming an animal.
Human kids name animals give names for various reasons. One of our does as a kid would jump over, under, and through you. She simply did not want to be handled. So, the kids named her Reckless. She kidded twins this year. For some reason the names begin with "R" and indicate wild abandonment. The buck kid is Rebel and the doe kid is Reck. Another doe by Holy Moly is Golly Molly and her kid is Gee Whiz.
Several of our bucks and does are named because of where they were purchased or because of a breeding trait. Aggie because he came from Texas and the owner is a Texas A&M Alumni. Pancho because he came from a long line of the Spanish breed. Spot just because he is spotted. We attended a summer evening sale in an open pavilion needless to say the bugs just about ate everyone up. Our owner-manager was bound and determined to purchase a certain doe. Yep, you guessed it, her name is Bug Sale. :)
